I have always produced very controlled detailed oil paintings. Recently, I have been breaking away from custom tradisionalism and have been dabbling in modern, abstract acryllics.

It has been delightfully freeing to "color outside the lines" and create something completely different than what I always have. Rather than planning out each meticulous step, I allow the brushstrokes to lead. I must say this new expression is very fun and makes me feel alive.

This new form of art is very fitting for where I am at in my life right now, especially not having a job or daily structure. I consider myself a pretty organized person. Rountine? Never. Detailed? Absolutely. Perhaps that is why this modern twist is so exciting to me right now. Though my eye does, and always will be, drawn to refined detailed art.

Blankets

I have been wanting to create a blog/website for a while now....

Loosing my job last week has inspired me to finally start. Not sure exactly how it will all turn out....the blog that is, of course I am not sure about the job situation either. All I know is I finally have some time on my hands to put some effort into this.

I love to create and design. I sew, paint, knit, and design various things. Colors, shapes, textiles, patterns, forms, and textures are my cup of tea. My eye is drawn toward graphic patterns and traditional motifs, anything with asthetically pleasing visual movement. Contour and broken lines sort of speak to me with tones of various hues, values, shades and tints.

Baby.... I have really been into baby stuff lately. It all started with my brother and his Australian wife Paula. They just had their second baby Joel. I still see baby #1 Judah, as a baby, even though he's two and a half now. Perhaps my perspective will change when I can actually skype with baby #2 Joel. The other side of the world is many tears away.

I heard they were preggers and so I decided to make Joel a baby blanket one day. Though I did not know it was Joel at the time. For all I knew, it could have been a Judy. So it was soft yellow with sage green trim and white polka dots. In the middle was a plush yellow ducky with an orange beak that was just as tangibly soft as the duck itself. Sewing it was fun. Designing it was awesome.

I learned a piece of valuable information when we skyped one evening. I learned that baby # 2 would be a boy. Then I added some light blue trim to the outer edge and the inside rim framing the ducky. Judah, my favorite kid in the whole world, came over to the camera with a pic of me and my sis and said, "Tee!!!" Yes that's right, I am "Aunt T." At that moment, the kid broke my heart in the best way possible and he ended up with a blanket as well.

The American Flag Blanket was more for a two year old with black, white and red. It was a bit larger, and very heavy since I added some wool fabric to the innermost layer. This gave it weightiness and made it feel expensive. In the upper right hand corner, was a soft plush cow, similar to the ducky I sewed in. There were muslin white stars sewen sprikled around to give it "The cow jumed over the moon" effect.

Upon my sending the blanket package to Aussieland, I decieded that Paula would need some matching burpcloths for baby #2. So I sewed some fabric and ribbon on three coordinating burpcloths. I tied it all together (the things for Joel) into a big baby cake, with ribbon and dangling passys and included the blanket for Judah, sending it off to the other side of the world.
